Another big game looms on the horizon for Manchester City. This weekend, Pep Guardiola’s side will host Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Etihad. The champions currently require 4 wins to secure a record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title. But irrespective of the performance they put out on Saturday, Manchester City must pick up three points against Gary O’Neil’s side.

This weekend will again see City’s main title rivals play before the champions. Arsenal take on Bournemouth before City take on Wolves. It is the same situation that Manchester City was faced with last weekend. Depending on Arsenal’s result against an in form Bournemouth side, the world champions could potentially be 4 points behind Mikel Arteta’s side before they kick off against Wolves. City dealt with the pressure of that situation last Sunday with Arsenal beating Tottenham before City’s win over Nottingham Forest.

But if Arsenal drop points to the Cherries, the opportunity to seize the initiative in the title race may be presented to Manchester City. Whatever scenario is presented to the champions by the time they kick off against Wolves, the scenario remains the same. Pep Guardiola’s side must pick up three points against Wolves.

In previous seasons, Manchester City have been at their best when faced with the pressure of the same scenario they face on Saturday. It generally brings out the best in Pep Guardiola’s team. But they will face a Wolves team that will be eager to finish the season strong. Gary O’Neil’s side sit 11th in the Premier League table and have had an impressive campaign. They also beat City at Molineux 2-1 earlier this season. Wolves will be seeking a rare double over Manchester City, which could give the visitors added incentive this Saturday.

But despite all of this, Manchester City must pick up three points this weekend. That’s all that matters at this stage of the season. The champions’ title destiny remains in their hands as it stands currently. The hope is that it remains so come the final whistle at the Etihad on Saturday evening.
